Brave1 announces next phase of EU4UA defence-tech programme

Ukraine’s Brave1 defence-tech accelerator has launched the third phase of the ‘EU for Ukraine (EU4UA) Defence Tech’ grant programme, opening a call for uncrewed system components to bolster the country’s defence supply chain. 

The EU4UA programme – a joint initiative launched by Ukraine and the EU in 2025 – is designed to support Ukraine through requirement-based grants for companies in the region, reducing logistical hurdles.  

Announced on 10 July, this latest call is specifically looking to fund research and development for propellers, high-density battery packs, power electronics, and frames for uncrewed systems.  

Companies with components at technological readiness levels of three or four are eligible to secure funding, with the expectation that these would advance by at least one level under the programme. 

In total, 20 teams could secure up to EUR33,000 each from a funding pot of EUR660,000. 

While funding will be provided by the EU, Brave1 is working with Ukraine’s Better Regulation Delivery Office to organise the call. This office works to better align Ukraine’s business environment with that of the EU and helps regulate compliance. 

The Management Body of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the “competition commission” will evaluate the grant applications, with final decisions on funding being made by the EU4UA Supervisory Board, according to Brave1. 

Applications for the third phase of EU4UA are due by 21 August.
