The UK will deliver at least 120,000 drones to Ukraine, manufactured by a range of domestic companies including SMEs.

An announcement from the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) on 15 April says that the package is the “largest of its kind” ever supplied by the country.

It will see a range of drones for long-range strike, intelligence and reconnaissance, and logistics delivered to Ukraine as well as “maritime capabilities” to bolster its defences against Russia.

According to the MoD, all supplied drones will have proven battlefield experience.

A boost for UK businesses

The MoD says that the deal will bolster domestic growth, with the majority of the investment going towards a range of UK defence companies.

Among the drone suppliers supporting this deal is SME Windracers – a manufacturer of dual-use, heavy-lift drones. The Windracers ‘Ultra’ drone was highlighted in a Parliamentary showcase of Ukrainian defence support in November.

Another UK company is Tekever, which develops modular, multi-purpose drones such as the AR3 Evo.

Tekever is establishing a new drone manufacturing site in Swindon, UK to keep up with demand, which is set to open this year.

Malloy Aeronautics, a producer of uncrewed, heavy lift quadcopters, is also listed as a supplier. The business was an SME that was acquired by BAE Systems in 2024.

Support for Ukraine

The new package will be funded by the UK’s wider GBP3 billion Ukrainian support package promised this year, as well as the G7 Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration fund initiative.

The MoD has not yet replied to DSEI Gateway's request for comment on the exact funds to be allocated from each.

The announcement comes on the same day as the thirty-fourth meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group in Berlin, an alliance of 57 countries to support Ukrainian defence.

Speaking on the new package, UK Defence Secretary John Healey said: “In the fifth year of Putin’s brutal war, the UK is stepping up further and providing the highest ever number of drones for Ukraine this year.”

Healey is also set to announce further support for Ukraine, including thousands of artillery rounds and air defence missiles.

The MoD notes that delivery of the drones has already begun.
