Strila drone interceptors (Quantum Systems)
Quantum Systems to supply Ukraine with drone interceptors
The counter-UASs are intended to protect the country’s airspace.
Germany-based startup Quantum Systems will supply Ukraine with 15,000 ‘Strila’ interceptor systems to defend the country’s airspace from Russia’s attack drones.
Engineered to target rapidly manoeuvring aerial threats, the interceptors will be delivered to the National Guard of Ukraine, Quantum Systems announced on 23 March.
Quantum Systems is a developer, designer, and producer of multi-sensor UASs and has been delivering systems such as its Vector surveillance drone to Ukraine for several years.
The business has surpassed ‘unicorn’ status – when a company is valued at EUR1 billion – to become a ‘triple unicorn’ with a valuation of EUR3 billion. This follows a record year for new defence unicorn startups in 2025 with 10 startups achieving the status, according to Forbes.
Drone manufacturing
Strila is a rocket-based UAV air defence interceptor, built by Ukrainian company WIY Drones, to defeat aerial targets such as the Shahed attack drone and other strike systems.
Quantum Systems recently invested in WIY drones and will help scale up production of the systems to meet the order. Speaking on the deal, Sven Kruck, the Co-CEO of Quantum Systems, said that his company is helping to bring “these solutions to [an] industrial scale”.
The initial phase of Strila rollout will begin in Ukraine, although Quantum Systems says future exports of surplus production are “a possibility”.
The German startup has helped another Ukrainian company to scale up production of its drones, specifically Frontline Robotics.
