Poland to test aerial threat interceptors

The Polish Ministry of National Defence is seeking to test interceptors to counter aerial threats, as the country seeks to bolster its air defences.

A call for applications, launched on 30 July by the defence ministry, is inviting suppliers to submit systems capable of the pursuit and kinetic interception of large UASs, helicopters, and other crewed aircraft for testing.

Technical requirements for Polish uncrewed interceptors

The interceptors to be tested are expected to reach speeds of at least 350km/h and sustain flight for over 20 minutes. The systems are also required to have a flight range of no less than 35km and a target detection range of at least 3km.

The defence ministry says that the guidance systems of the interceptors must be operable during both day and night. It also specifies a preference for AI-based guidance.

Operators must be able to launch the interceptor within three minutes of receiving clearance, with target neutralisation completed within a further eight minutes.

Supplier eligibility

Notably, the call for applications says that all submitted systems must already be at a technology readiness level of nine. This means the products must be fully developed and ready for immediate deployment.

Additionally, all interceptors must be manufactured within EU or NATO member states.

Submissions to participate in the test close on 14 August, with selected suppliers to be notified within 30 days.
